Over Forty in Broken Hill
Travel (1992)
Jack Hodgins
When Canadian writer Jack Hodgins sets off on an outback adventure with Australian novelist Roger McDonald, he is unprepared for the challenges of the bush, or the idiosyncracies of an unreliable old Holden ute.
Whether waiting beside the track, bogged to the axles, or sojourning in Hay, Broken Hill, Charleville, and many other important outposts of civilisation, this bemused visitor tries to make sense of what is for him an overwhelming landscape, peopled by exotic characters and even stranger idioms.
